In June of 2023, painter Klara Maisch, filmmaker Rachel Heckerman and myself drove over 500 miles, packed and transported 460 pounds of gear, flew 150 miles over North America’s highest mountain range, and camped for 10 nights on Denali National Park’s longest glacier at 7,200 feet. We each pushed our creativity higher, bigger, and harder than ever before and made desserts, paintings, sketches, photos, and video pieces all inspired by the harsh environment. Infinitely bettered by each other’s friendship and artistic pursuits on the mountain, we stayed unified and inspired as we all struggled just as hard, overcame just as many necessary pivots, and thrived together in spite of it all.
Rachel is continuing work on a feature-length documentary about this project (which we’re hoping to complete later this summer), but today I’m thrilled to publicly release this three-minute teaser video showcasing my pastry piece of the puzzle.
Please dig in and enjoy.
Making desserts about science in our planet’s wildest places makes me feel more alive than anything else. And sharing it here with you is quite truly what makes it all worth it. So thank you for being here. And buckle up. It’s about to get real damn good.
